Who Are We?

The Burnaby Children’s Centres Society is a non-profit society dedicated to providing quality childcare for families of the community. We aim to provide “Excellence In Childcare”.

We operate two daycare facilities located in the Hanna Court cul-de-sac, one block from the Edmonds Skytrain station in Burnaby

History

The first of the two centres to open was the BC Hydro Children’s Centre in May 1995, constructed by BC Hydro. The Hanna Court Children’s Centre opened in September 1995, constructed by the City of Burnaby .

Although the centres were built through funding, our society primarily operates through fees and fundraising activities. Spaces at both centres are available to any family of the community.

Philosophy

  • Children are entitled to a safe and secure environment that fosters their physical, intellectual, creative, emotional, and social development

  • Parents are entitled to meaningful involvement in their child’s care

  • Staff are entitled to work in a supportive and respectful environment

  • Our approach to discipline is through setting limits in a positive manner, explaining consequences and building in alternatives for the child

  • We strive for good communication between parents, staff and the Board of Directors through open discussions, regular meetings, and written communications

About our Staff

  • All staff are trained and certified as Early Childhood Educators and also have the required certification in First Aid.

  • Our society ensures all staff undergo a criminal record check as required by law. In addition, our staff are members of the B.C. Government and Service Employee' Union (BCGEU).

  • We also support practicum students of the Early Childhood Educator program by having them participate and observe our programs.

  • Staff are dedicated to providing a secure and enriching atmosphere for your children and are aware of the importance these early years play in the whole development of your child
